Toxic?

Is this antifreeze non-toxic (drinking water safe)?

Initial answer that the produst is toxic is correct - however I do not think that the question asked if it is safe to drink! If the question is if the product is safe to use in pipes that carry drinking water the answer is - Yes. The pipes need to be flushed with clean water before reuse. Any very small residual amounts of antifreeze are not harmful

This product should not be diluted. Any water remaining in the lines and drains will cause the product to expand and damage water lines.

Question

If you cannot dilute RV antifreeze and you must clear out all of the water from a system, what is the point of using the antifreeze?

Re: RV Plumbing antifreeze. It must be that some bit of dilution is permissible or the only reason to use the antifreeze would be to keep the system from drying out.

If you dilute plumbing antifreeze too much with water it will freeze and break the water pipes. For example, if you pour one bottle of RV into a pool the plumbing antifreeze will not keep the pool from freezing as there is too much water. You never know how much water is in the system that is why the instructions state to drain the system first before using the product. There will always be some water left in the system, so the remaining water will mix with the product and prevent it from expanding when it freezes. If it doesn’t expand then the pipes will be protected.

Question

is it safe for septic systems?

I have a summer cottage that I winterize each fall, including RV antifreeze in the dishwasher and clothes washer, as well as the toilet traps. In the spring this fluid ends up in my septic tank, and I am worried it will harm the "bugs".
