Looking for Answers about Mastercraft Mastercraft Sump Pump Battery Backup?

Any automotive/marine battery would work fine

A primary sump pump is typically 1/3-1/2 hp and A/C powered. They are cheap quiet and efficient, clearing your pit in a matter of seconds. Mine sees heavy use, pumping at least once per hour, all year round.
This is a 1/6hp system that runs off of a battery... so it is intended as an emergency backup system, ie. during a rainstorm when you have a power outage. However, if there are no laws regarding the size of your sump pump, this might work fine as a primary for light use... but then what will you use as a backup system?

there are two rubber rings on the long steel rod, that is to adjust how low the water level will be before the pump will stop and the other rubber ring will adjust how high the water level will be before it will start pumping

It will depend on the freq. the pump will need to operate and the duration ( it will take longer to pump away the same 15 inches of water, if your well is 6ft x 6ft instead of 2ft x 2 ft) plus the size/capacity of the deep cycle battery you hooked up to it

When the lights flash between green and yellow, that indicates the system is in error mode. Please refer to page 9 of the owner’s manual for complete details.

There are 6 possible causes:
1) The battery failed the pre-qualification test
2) The charger is connected to a 24V battery
3) Charging took too long
4) Excessive battery drain
5) Reverse battery connection
6) Over heated battery.

Potential solutions:
- Causes 1,2 and 6, replace battery with a 12V deep-cycle marine battery.
- Cause 3, reset the charger but make sure the pump cannot start during charging and/or replace with correct size battery.
- Cause 4, If the battery backup is operating without a power failure the primary sump pump may have failed due to constant use and will require replacement.
- Cause 5, Reconnect charger (+) to battery (+) and (-) to (-).

Use a 12 volt deep cycle marine battery only.

If the product fails during the warranty period (with receipt), a replacement will be provided. Replacement parts are available but they would have to be special ordered.

This is a difficult question to answer without knowing the details of the scenario. The back up sump pump is only supposed to go on if and when the primary pump is overwhelmed or if it fails to operate. We are not sure which pump is cycling on and off but that is typical of a pump provided there is water in the pit. Pumps will operate for a few minutes at a time and shut off once the water is drained to a certain level. Typically, the float switch senses the water rise and it will turn on the primary pump. If the water is flowing into the pit too fast and overwhelming the primary pump, a secondary float switch on the second pump will sense water and activate.
