Yes you can use it in a workshop, however I would recommend a more reasonably priced heater with the same output, the max heater you can get for 120v outlet is 1500 watts.

We don’t recommend this heater for a workshop environment for the reasons you’ve commented on. May we suggest a garage or workshop radiant heater with light mounte don the ceiling for $69.99 sku 43-5995. It is highly rated by other woodworkers.

It would be 1.5 kilowatts/hour. Therefore multiple 1.5 by the number of hours you expect to use it a month to get the monthly energy consumption.

Question

(quartz) infrared heaters

Some stores sell infrared heaters without the 'quartz' adjective. What is the difference? Why is 'quartz' more expensive?

Quartz is a grade of glass with very high silica content that makes it ideal for use in infrared heating elements. Quartz has a high melting temperature as well as a high resistance to thermal shock (cracking from repeated expansion and contraction when heated and cooled.) Quartz is more expensive than commercial grades of glass due to the higher melting temperature as well as the higher material requirements.
