Just got pulled over this moring, the municipal police officer was saying the covers can not obstruct the view of the plate, threatened me with 110 dollars for a fine, i took them off, interesting fact, i have used plate covers for 15 years to protect the front and rear plates from damage from putting on the trailer and from the bugs and stone chips that prematuly damage and rust the plates. cant win...

These are illegal in the province of Ontario as per the Highway Traffic Act 13 (2). The section does not indicate color, simply that having something over your plate is considered an obstruction. They will get you a ticket of $110. Not sure why any store in Ontario is allowed to sell them.

Yes they are but we have them on our toyota and the cops dont care so i guess its not a big deal. The clear ones look better though.
